History lessons in photography

Some time ago I had the pleasure of hearing Colin Westerbeck speak at MOCA in Los Angeles on Robert Frank‘s, “The Americans”.  After his lecture,  familiarity with the back story of Frank’s work definitely increased my appreciation of the exhibit.  Westerbeck is Director at UCR/California Museum of Photography.  After hearing his lecture, I wanted to read every article the man had written.  He was that good.  As we all know, “google is your friend” and I found a series of articles Mr. Westerbeck had written for the Los Angeles Times newspaper.  The articles span several years.  If you’re interested in knowing the historical context, etc in which various photographers created and exhibited their work, these articles are highly recommended!

You can find the articles here: http://8.12.42.31/writers/colin-westerbeck

Enjoy!
